
The Scuba-Works Florida Lobster Challenge is a statewide lobster tournament that takes place annually during the two-day Florida Lobster Mini-Season. The Lobster Mini-Season is always the last consecutive Wednesday and Thursday in the Month of July.
For 2007, July 25th and July 26th, SCUBA Works in Jupiter will host the Fourth Annual Florida Lobster Challenge. Participants in the event will try to catch the largest lobster off Florida’s coastal shores, as part of the annual Spiny Lobster Mini-Season. One participant who catches a lobster weighing 16.0 pounds or more, will win $25,000.(See Rules).
Proceeds from the event will benefit the Loggerhead MarineLife Center of Juno Beach, a not-for-profit education, research and conservation facility. In addition, this event will help promote Palm Beach County as viable location for local, regional and national divers to visit during the Florida Spiny Lobster Mini-Season.
Competition begins at 12:01 a.m. on Wednesday, July 25th and continues until Thursday, July 26th. You need to be in line for the weigh-in by 4 p.m. to weigh in your lobster (See Rules). All lobster weigh-ins will take place at SCUBA Works, located at 351 South US Highway One in Jupiter, Florida. Winners will be announced during the awards banquet beginning at 7:00 p.m. at the Square Grouper in Jupiter, Florida. In addition to the $25,000 Grand Prize, participants can win scuba equipment, boat trips and cash prizes, see rules.
